Folklore

Portugal as a country is a beautiful one that has a dark past that remains embedded within it through its landmarks. Castles once used by kings and queens, Fortresses that protected the people within them from outsiders, Cities that have become hubs of specially made wine and liquor, Churches built in honor of God that are feats of architectural engineering, and Beaches with millions of visitors standing by just to get one glimpse at a 100 foot wave. These places are filled with extensive histories, good and bad. They have layers upon layers of stories that can be traced back 400,000 years. These locations have memories buried within them and these photographs are meant to serve as passages into these concealed histories.

For me personally, the country of Portugal and its culture has had a huge role in my life. These places and the people that came from them practically raised me. My family and I have spent entire summers there; I don’t think that I would be the same if we didn’t. Going on trips to Porto, and Buscao or just spending time at my grandparents’ house are all things that shaped me as a person as well as helping me learn about my own history.

The book component of the project is located at the end of the page in the form of a PDF.
